Google is making its premium cloud storage plans a fair bit cheaper with the introduction of Google One.

What you're getting with Google One are various tiers of cloud storage that are a fair bit cheaper than before. These stand at $1.99 (about £1.50) per month for 100GB, $2.99 (about £2.00) per month for 200GB, and US$9.99 (about £7.50) per month for 2TB. Prices for more than 2TB are staying the same. There's also the option to share your plan with up to five family members.

There's also the added benefit for existing customers that Anyone with a 1TB plan will be upgraded to 2TB automatically – even if they sign up right now before Google One launches in the coming months.

But it's not just a like-for-like change with more storage for less money. Google One also gives users access to support from Google experts, monetary discounts like Google Play vouchers and hotel deals via Google Search.

Right now, interested users can sign up to receive email updates when the service becomes available 'in your area'. Presumably this means that the 'expert advice' being offered will be over the phone or in person. Google's take on the Genius bar maybe?

This is currently only a consumer scheme, with G Suite business users having to twiddle their thumbs for a while until Google comes up with a more office-friendly version of the service.
