UK has 13th fastest internet speeds in world rankings

The UK is lagging behind 12 other countries in the world, in terms of average internet speeds.

In its latest quarterly State of the Internet Report, cloud services provider Akami has found that the UK has average internet speeds of 14.9Mbps, as of Q1 2016, placing it 13th in its breakdown of global internet speeds.

Norway, with an average speed of 21.3Mbps, has the best average internet speeds in Europe, while South Korea, with average speeds of 29.0Mbps, ranks as the best in the world.

The report concludes that internet speeds have risen 23 per cent year-on-year on average across the globe to 6.3Mbps.

With these rising speeds, plus an ever growing install base of over 39 million people in the UK, according to the Office for National Statistics, this spells good news for internet service providers (ISPs) and networking hardware manufacturers.
