John McAfee has launched an indiegogo campaign to fund his new password and key replacement device Everykey.
The McAfee Antivirus founder and 2016 presidential candidate has called Everykey a ‘f*cking game changer’.
“When our team first conceptualised Everykey, security was a top priority. That’s why we’ve built in military-grade encryption and safety features like the ability to remotely freeze your Everykey if it’s lost or stolen,” said McAfee, who is the chief evangelist of Everykey.
When Everykey is close to your phone, laptop, tablet, house door, car door, or another access–controlled device, it unlocks that device. When you walk away, that device locks back down.
Everykey can also log you into your website accounts. If you lose your Everykey, you can remotely freeze it, so no one else can use it.
Everykey also stores a password keychain, which can be used to log the user into their website accounts when they are with in range of one of their devices.
“When we looked at the access control industry, we saw an outdated and insecure system. We wanted to build something that was more personal and convenient. Instead of carrying a bulky keychain and remembering a list of passwords, we want your access control to be something you don’t have to think about. That was our dream back when this was just a school project, and we’re making it a reality with Everykey!” commented Everykey CEO Chris Wentz.
Known for his outspokenness and getting himself into a spot of trouble, John McAfee is certainly a colourful character in the tech industry. Since he became a suspect in the death of his neighbour in Belize back in 2012, McAfee has been arrested for driving under the influence with a handgun, revealed he is running for President, and released a bizarre video featuring scantily clad women, ‘bath salts’ and a guide on how to uninstall McAfee Antivirus.
