Second-gen Nexus 7 expected in July

Google is reportedly ready to launch its next-generation model of Nexus 7 tablets as the firm targets a summer launch for the new device.

Initially reported by Reuters, the new edition of the Nexus 7 is believed to feature a Qualcomm processor – a move that would seemingly drop Nvidia’s Tegra 3 chip, which was used within the device’s predecessor.

The updated Nexus 7 could also sport a full HD display – a significant improvement over the seven-inch 800 x 1280 screen used in the previous model.

Upon its launch, the Nexus 7 threw open the tablet market. As consumers increasingly turned to smaller, budget devices such as Google’s device, rivals took note and paved the way for an influx of smaller tablets that includes the Amazon Kindle Fire HD and iPad mini.

Google is keen to replicate the success of the budget Nexus 7 by maintaining a low price tag for the device, with the firm reportedly ready to offer the device for as little as £99.

Whilst Google is remaining tight-lipped over the device, a new Nexus 7 could surface as soon as May, when the firm hosts its annual I/O event.
