Samsung has developed new technology that boosts Wi-Fi speeds up to five times faster than current speeds.
The tech allows Wi-Fi to boost its speeds from 866Mbps to 4.6Gbps, meaning a 1GB movie could be transferred between devices in under three seconds.
It will also allow HD videos to be streamed in real time, and is expected as early as next year.
Regular Wi-Fi standards work at 2.4GHz and 5GHz signals, however, the company claims that the new technology works at 60GHz.
Kim Chang Yong, head of Samsung’s DMC R&D department, said: “Samsung has successfully overcome the barriers to the commercialisation of 60GHz millimetre-wave band Wi-Fi technology, and looks forward to commercialising this breakthrough technology.”
Samsung plans to apply the tech to a wide range of products, including audio visual and medical devices, as well as telecommunications equipment.
This news comes after the firm revealed its new 27-inch curved PC monitor. The new device features a 1920×1080 resolution screen and a 4000R curvature, which Samsung says will give it a wider field of view than a flat 27-inch display.
