The internet TV venture, YouView, is being sued by a Gloucester-based telecoms due to its similarity with the name Your View.
According to ERT Online, Total Ltd registered Your View in 2009 and this lawsuit follows a decision by the Trade Marks Registry not to grant YouView a trademark due to the similarity with Your View.
YouView, which was founded as a collaborative venture between a number of companies, including the BBC, and includes Lord Sugar as a non-executive chairman, has stated that it has “no intention of changing its name.”
“This matter is complex and subject to a number of ongoing legal actions and will be settled in the courts,” said a YouView spokesman.
Stuart Balkie, managing director of Total Ltd commented: “Despite the recent vindication of our position in the appeal proceedings, we believe that YouView has continued to act without regard to our registered mark and business interests. We have had no choice but to issue infringement proceedings and we are confident of success.”
