The launch of the planned YouView internet television service YouView may be delayed until 2012 according to a damning report by Telegraph.
The web-TV system previously known as Project Canvas is a joint venture of the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Five, TalkTalk and BT and was originally slated to launch in 2010.
However a TV executive quoted by the Telegraph said that "It just doesn’t work when you turn it on and keeps crashing."
"You would think that after at least 18 months of development and at least six million pounds worth of investment from each shareholder, the box would actually work when being shown to its owners," said the unnamed executive.
Reports have also emerged that the £200-target set-top box in development has hit a number of hurdles such as failure to negotiate a standard with the Digital TV Group.
With internet-delivered services such as the BBC’s iPlayer being successfully deployed on additional platforms such as mobile devices and, videogame consoles and smart-TVs, continued delays risk the project becoming obsolete before it even gets off the ground.
