YouTube has announced that it will launch a brand new gaming website, rivalling streaming platform Twitch.

YouTube Gaming will be launching in the summer starting in the UK and US as an app and website, which will stream games and keep players connected to games whilst also providing a community of gamers on the web.

According to the company’s blog page, the website will have more than 25,000 games that will each have their own page.

Users will also find channels from a variety of game publishers and YouTube creators.

In addition, gamers can subscribe to a particular channel and get notifications as soon as they start a live stream.

YouTube Gaming was first showcased at gaming trade show E3, where attendees could check out the streaming service.

Ryan Wyatt, YouTube's head of gaming content, said via the BBC: “There clearly is an appetite for gaming when you see billions of hours of watch time.”

"People are entertaining, there's comedy, there's drama, there's animation. It's not necessarily people just playing video games. It's something much bigger than that."

The company has also promised customers that it will launch an improved live experience in the coming weeks, making it simpler to broadcast gameplay to YouTube, as well as redesigning its system so users no longer have to schedule a live event ahead of time.
