Microsoft aims to get operating system installed on $100 XO laptop

XP sets its sights on OLPC

Microsoft corporate vice president, Will Poole, has told the press that the software vendor has made progress in getting its Windows XP operating system installed on the OLPC project’s XO laptop.

He said that the company was currently working on adapting the operating system to make it able to run on the super-budget PC, which current runs on a version of open source rival Linux.

"We’re spending a nontrivial amount of money on it," said Poole in the interview on Thursday. "We remain hopeful with our progress to date, we still have significant work ahead to finalize our analysis and testing processes," he said. "At the end of the day, there are no guarantees."
