WHEN CompTIA founded its UK Channel Community in 2011, Lee Evans, managing director of Vital Technology Group, jumped at the chance to get in on the ground floor. He’s recently moved from vice chair to chair of the community, so we spoke with Evans about what the community has to offer.

Why should a tech firm join the UK Channel Community?

It’s a great way to network with industry peers and leaders. You can develop relationships with fellow service providers and a number of the leading vendors and distributors in the UK channel. It’s a unique place to develop powerful relationships that can help you develop your business, find new opportunities and keep ahead of the curve in industry developments.

What’s the best way for a company to get involved with the UK Channel Community?

Just come along to one of our UKCC meetings, join the LinkedIn group or pick up the phone and talk to one of the UKCC Executive Council members.

How has the UK Channel Community grown since its inception?

Growth has been very good. Our inaugural meeting had around 25 members. In just over a year, our last meeting pulled in a group of nearly 100 service providers, vendors and distributors.

What resources does the UK Channel Community offer to its members?

As part of CompTIA, the UKCC has access to a wide range of benefits: educational resources, training materials and workshops, legal resources and, of course, the community itself for peer networking.

What has the UK Channel Community accomplished that you’re most proud of?

We’re lucky that the UKCC has already delivered on a number of positive initiatives. I’m most proud of the philanthropic contribution the group has made to Computers for Charities, a relevant and worthy cause. Commercially, the launch of the IT Business Trustmark has been a great achievement and one that I look forward to seeing flourish in the UK Channel.

What’s next for the UK Channel Community?

You’ll have to wait and see! The UKCC works on a couple of key initiatives voted for by our members each year and we’ll be excited to announce our goals for 2013 shortly after our first meeting of the year, which takes place on February 27th in Leeds.
