German authorities have warned internet users against using the Firefox browser because of a security risk.

According to BBC News, the Federal Office for Information Security warned that the browser’s vulnerability, which has been confirmed by maker Mozilla, could allow hackers to run malware on users' machines.

A new version of the bowser, Firefox 3.6.2, is currently in beta testing. It is due to be released at the end of the month and will fix the security hole in the current Firefox 3.6.

The BergerCERT team of the FOIS has recommended that users stop using Firefox until the release.

Mozilla confirmed the vulnerability on its security blog last week, confirming that only the current version of the browser was affected. The firm hopes to have the new version ready ahead of its official release on 30 March.

In January, the German and French governments both issued warnings against Internet Explorer, advising users to switch to alternatives.
