Vodafone is giving laptops and mobile broadband dongles to over 450 disadvantaged children in the Birmingham area.
According to Mobile News, the scheme is a collaborative effort between Vodafone and Birmingham City Council and is funded by the government agency, Becta. It aims to bring broadband internet to children with no fixed lines at home, to open up online educational resources and learning programmes.
“This is a highly flexible and cost effective way for us to provide some of the most disadvantaged homes in the region with mobile broadband access and make sure that the children have every opportunity to improve their education,” said Birmingham City Council’s cabinet member for Children, Young People and Families, Les Lawrence.
