Scan Computers is to release the UK’s first official Steam Machine in the second half of 2014, with the price of the gaming system to start at £699.

Announced as one of 14 partners who have collaborated with Valve to offer a console-like gaming PC running on Valve’s SteamOS operating system, Scan has also worked with graphics specialist Nvidia “to provide gamers with the smallest possible PC for their living room”.

The Scan 3XS Steam NC10 uses custom components encased within a 202x369x45mm three-litre volume chassis, which is designed to fit under a TV like a set-top box or DVD player.

The £699 standard specification of the NX10 will include a 2GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 765M graphics card, Intel Core i3 4000M processor, 8GB of Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz RAM and a 500GB Western Digital hard disk. Customers will be also able to customize the system with other components using Scan’s online configurator.

As with all of the official Steam Machines, the NC10 will include Valve’s Steam Controller and come pre-installed with the Linux-based operating system SteamOS, which has been optimized for gaming.

“The buzz generated in the market about the anticipated impact of the new innovations in hardware design to run SteamOS is massive,” said Elan Raja III, director of Scan Computers.

“SteamOS is bridging the gap between true PC gaming and the console. Allowing hardware variations and price points to a new gaming OS for front room gaming is nothing but slick. We’re proud to be a hardware launch partner.”

The NC10 will be released in the second half of 2014 alongside the launch of the Steam Controller and the release version of SteamOS.
