Microsoft has opened the lid on the extraordinary assortment of mice it’s developing, including a mouse that ‘sees’ your finger gestures and one that is, essentially, a hand-cradled touch-pad.

Microsoft’s Applied Sciences Group – the division which helped design the Xbox 360’s Natal tech – has revealed a range of future mice prototypes to consumer news site Gizmodo.

Its range of new mice includes a traditionally shaped mouse that’s fitted with a track pad at its click-side. Users can operate iPhone-esque pinches on the mouse, control with a range of gestures, and flick through photos with a brush of the thumb.

Microsoft also showed off the FTIR (pictured), a far more extraterrestrial offering where the device is attached with a camera that records the user’s finger motions and processes them as commands.
