Valve has launched a beta for a virtual reality headset-specific version of its Steam interface.
According to instructions on Steam’s new SteamVR community, the SteamVR interface can be accessed by users of VR headsets such as the Oculus Rift by opting into the beta before adding ‘-vr’ to the command line of the Steam client.
The interface resembles the Steam Big Picture mode, but projected as a floating curved screen inside the user’s virtual environment.
Valve has been ramping up interest in VR recently, highlighting games in the Steam store that support the immersive technology.
The company is also due to showcase its own VR headset hardware at its ‘Dev Days’ event this week, and is also rumoured to be working on a development platform for games that use virtual reality.
