New bill seeks to redefine contractual terms for American workers

US moves to scrap overtime for IT workers

A bill has been introduced to the US senate that will make employees exempt from paying IT workers overtime.

According to Standalone SysAdmin, the bill would place IT workers in the United States in the same employment category as agricultural workers, fishermen and park rangers, making them ineligible to claim overtime.

The move has come after a number of lawsuits in the United States over the past few years, including a $35 million suit against Oracle, whereby employees have been erroneously categorised as ineligible for overtime by their employers, only to successfully sue for back pay when they discover the error.
