Galaxy Tab 10.1 sales have been banned in the US while a court decides the outcome of a patent dispute between Apple and Samsung.

Apple claims that Samsung has infringed its design patent for the iPad. Sporting a very similar design, the Galaxy Tab is considered to be the biggest rival to Apple’s tablet.

Although sales of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 are banned, Samsung’s newest version, Galaxy Tab 10.1 II, will not be affected.

Being two of the biggest tablet and smartphone manufacturers in the world, legal cases and fights over patent rights are nothing new for Apple and Samsung.

Both companies are involved in a number of cases across the globe. Just last week PCR reported that a Dutch court had ordered Apple to pay damages to Samsung after it found the company to be guilty of infringing on a Samsung patent relating to the way smartphones and tablets connect to the internet.
