Acquisition aimed at snapping up staff to work on Twitter's own social efforts.

Twitter buys Posterous

Social networking service Twitter has acquired fellow micro-blogging service Posterous in a deal which appears to be more about acquiring staff than the ‘Spaces’ service.

"Today we are welcoming a very talented group from Posterous to Twitter. This team has built an innovative product that makes sharing across the web and mobile devices simple – a goal we share," Twitter announced in a blog post.

Saying only that Posterous Spaces would remain operational with ‘ample notice’ of any closure of the service, Twitter said that Posterous staff would join Twitter in working on existing ‘key initiatives’.

"The last four years have been an amazing journey. Your encouragement, praise and criticism have made us better," the Posterous team announced in a blog update.

"Thanks for that. We look forward to building great things for you over at Twitter."
