Toshiba has lowered its 2007 HD DVD North American sales forecasts from 1.8 million units to one million units, a drop of 44 per cent.

Yoshihide Fujii, Toshiba's head of consumer electronics, said forecasts across the rest of the world will also be affected: "Sales in the US have been slower than expected, and we are going to have to lower our US sales forecast. Obviously we are going to have to lower our previous global estimate."

Fujii previously said he expected Toshiba to sell 3 million HD DVD players and recorders worldwide by the end of the business year to March 2008, led by “US consumers' appetite for movies at home,” reported the Washington Post.
