Thousands of Google Mail users lose their email

Internet giant Google’s Gmail web emails service experienced a glitch which reset many thousands of accounts, deleting potentially years worth of email.

The company said that the issue affected less than 0.08 percent of the firm’s Google Mail database, but with around 200 million users, that’s still around 160,000 accounts hit by the issue.

Google said that the firm was working to restore emails to the affected accounts and that Gmail account holders may be unable to sign in while the firm ‘repairs’ the accounts.

The last update on the Google Apps Status Dashboard says that Google had already restored the email of some affected accounts and expects a ‘resolution’ for all accounts in the near future.
