TechNorth has been introduced within the North, a new initiative that aims to double tech jobs across the region.

TechNorth will emulate the success of London's Tech City, a cluster located in Central and East London to help deliver the growth of tech businesses.

Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, is supporting the new initiative, describing it as a ‘technology hub for the region’.

The ‘virtual hub’, which launched October 22nd, hopes to bring together the cities of Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield and Newcastle.

A new agency will be charged with attracting inward investors to the North, while local tech businesses will be encouraged to come up with ideas and resources.

Katie Gallagher, managing director of Manchester Digital, said: “TechNorth is a good concept and we are hoping to lend our support to this initiative.

“We look forward to working with partners across the North to add further shape to the scheme. There are already a number of existing initiatives in place which would flourish with additional support, funding and political backing."

PCR will be hosting its own Boot Camp North conference and expo in the North next month. It's free for retailers, resellers and system builders to attend - sign up here.
