Distributor Exertis Micro-P is urging the UK mobile and IT channels to unite and raise £120,000 this year to build a school in Ghana.

Its 'TechAid' programme is also seeking 40 industry professionals - across vendors, resellers and distributors - as volunteers. Those who sign up as a sponsor and help raise funds will get to go with Exertis Micro-P to Ghana in February 2015 to help work on the build.

Exertis Micro-P is also asking the industry to help donate IT kit which will help the Ghana Education Service (head office) with their IT. It is seeking at least four business projectors, four mobile document scanners, eight tablet PCs and 24 Microsoft Office licences (four for Mac, 12 for PC and eight for tablet).

The 'TechAid' programme has been developed in close collaboration with The Sabre Trust to build a Centre of Excellence Kindergarten at OLA Teacher Training college in Ghana, to ensure the children of Ghana receive the best possible start to their education and have a brighter future.

"Classrooms in Ghana are chronically under resourced and it is not unusual to see a single textbook shared by an entire class," said Exertis Micro-P in a statement. "However, Sabre's teacher training programme does offer opportunities for using ICT, particularly in relation to monitoring and evaluation, as well as training delivery. Exertis Micro-P is therefore urging all participants in the UK channel to dig deep to help resource these functions."

Simon Woodman, Mobile Sales Director at Exertis Micro-P, commented: “It is a privilege to be involved with such an inspirational organisation as Sabre. The work it does to build sustainable schools that provide better educational learning environments for children aged four and five, and in the training of teachers, should be a motivation for us all."
