NAS vendor Synology has revealed its 'fastest and most powerful' j series NAS - the DiskStation DS414j.
This device is aimed at home users and small office environments requiring up to 20TB of storage. It has a dual core 1.2GHz CPU, floating point and USB 3.0, and is priced at £258.
The DS414j (pictured) has an average 112 MB/s reading in a Windows environment, and 80 MB/s writing. It consumes 36.7 watts in full operation and 8.5 watts in HDD hibernation, and runs on DiskStation Manager (DSM) 5.0. The smart airflow and noise dampening designs aim to keep it cool and quiet.
“Synology is dedicated to bringing both business and home users affordable yet robust storage solutions, and DS414j is no doubt the epitome of such dedication. Being the first j series to feature dual core CPU and SuperSpeed USB 3.0, DS414j really heralds a new era for the budget-friendly NAS,” said Nicole Lin, Product Manager at Synology Inc.

Synology has also unveiled a new concept - the EDS14 - aimed at the surveillance market and specifically when surveillance is in a remote place such as methods of transportation. It’s disk-less, compact and shock-proof and is priced at £154.
The EDS14 measures at 125 x 125 x 31mm, making it nearly 70 per cent smaller than an ordinary 2-bay NAS server, and is aimed at areas where space is a challenge.
Synology will be exhibiting at PCR Boot Camp next month - make sure you're signed up to the event here.
