Microsoft reveals four year shelf-life for its flagship tablet device

Surface to be supported until 2017

Microsoft has announced that it will continue to provide support for its latest tablet device, the Surface, until April 11th 2017.

Those users who have recently invested in the tablet will be pleased by the news, which promises them at least four years of fully supported usage of the device.

This differs from Microsoft’s business products, which are typically offered with five years of extended support.

Following the date in 2017, the firm will cease all support and firmware updates for the device.

However, it is highly likely that Microsoft will follow in the footsteps of its closest rival Apple and its routine of offering new products on a yearly basis, meaning there could be a number of newer Surface devices available prior to this date.
