Apple chief remains the single biggest investor in Disney

Steve Jobs climbs up rich list

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has risen to 43rd spot in this year’s Forbes 400 Richest Americans.

Jobs was given an estimated worth of $5.1 billion, which is in fact down 600 million from his estimated value last year. Despite the loss, Jobs managed to fight through 2009 better than his peers, hitting his highest position yet.

Back in 2006 the Apple chief hovered at No. 132 on Forbes’ list.

Jobs’ fortune has strengthened in recent times due to prior investments in Disney. He purchased Pixar from George Lucas in 1986 during his brief spell away from Apple, before the animation studio was sold to Disney in stock. It means that Jobs is still today Disney’s largest investor, holding shares worth $3.9 billion.

Meanwhile, Microsoft founder Bill Gates retained top spot, as Microsoft’s current CEO Steve Ballmer holds fourteenth spot.
