Sony has bolstered its Vaio laptop series with a slew of models launched under new brand ranges, each addressing a particular market segment.
The new F and S models are high performance ranges, emphasising processing and graphical power. The F series is skewed towards multimedia uses, with a features including a 16.4-inch HD display powered by a quad-core i7 CPU and an Nvidia graphics chipset that utilises GDDR3 VRAM, and comes with a Blu-ray drive as standard.
The S series comes with some heavyweight specifications too. It is powered by the Intel Core i7, has 4GB of DDR3 RAM, and also includes an Nvidia GeForce 310M graphics chipset.
The Y series has a slightly smaller screen and is geared less towards high performance use. Models in the range have a 13.3-inch display and a battery life of around nine hours. It features a multi-touch trackpad, and includes one-touch access to the Vaio Care troubleshooting service.
Finally, the W series is Sony’s nod to the environmentally aware customer. It’s made from recycled CDs, contains no mercury, and was awarded Energy Star 5.0 certification from the US Environmental Protection Agency. The specs are somewhat lower than the other ranges.
