Sony is reportedly pushing to acquire the Japanese broadband company, So-Net.

According to ZDNet, aside from having a highly marketable name, the acquisition of the broadband company would also allow Sony to boost its cloud gaming offering.

Sony currently owns 58 per cent of So-Net, but would have to acquire the remaining 107,772 shares. It has put an offer in at 567, 500 Yen (£4,606) per share, which will remain active until September 20th.

“So-net has achieved significant success, particularly in the area of network services in Japan, and its rich array of network-related assets, including service management know-how, technologies, talent, extensive user base and content are all aligned with Sony’s strategic direction,” read Sony’s filing.
