Mass market voice and videocall provider Skype has released a new Skype 5 beta which adds support for 10-way group video calling.

The new beta version also adds offline instant messaging, improved contact management, post call experience polling and a general user interface refresh. The new beta version also adds Skype Home which updates, billing info and videos to help new users.

Since Skype is a peer-to-peer video and voice communications software application, the new 10-way group video call feature has hefty system requirements. Skype said that it would need a fast PC with a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor or equivalent with at least 1 mb/s bandwidth.

"In this new beta version we have considerably improved your call experience if something goes wrong with your connection," Skype said on the Garage blog. "We have built in client messaging which informs you about potential issues with the call and what to do to improve your call quality."

The new Skype 5 beta is available for download for Windows here.
