A developer has managed to port the iPhone 4S’ Siri user interface onto the older iPhone 4 and iPod touch.

The voice recognition software had to be hacked, the phone jailbroken, and then some technical wizadry employed to make it talk to the Apple servers.

When asked if the port will appear on sites for download, the developer Steven Troughton-Smith said: “No, I could not be a part of that. I have no doubts that others will package this up and distribute it quasi-illegally, or try and sell it to people. I am only interested in the technology and making it work; proving that it works and works well on the iPhone 4 and other devices.”
