Japanese manufacturer Sharp is planning to launch a 3D mobile phone display this year, which doesn’t need glasses to be viewed.
This is the vendor’s second attempt at the technology, after unsuccessfully launching phones and PCs with 3D dispays in the early 2000s. But now the tech is brighter and thinner 3D and supports touchscreen, potentially improving Sharp’s chances at success.
Sharp is hoping to begin mass producing a non-touchscreen version of the display, which does not require the user to wear 3D glasses, in the first half of this fiscal year.
According to the vendor, the technology can switch between 2D and 3D views and could be used on digital cameras as well as phones.
