Sector still only at 25 per cent penetration, claim channel experts

Sat nav market still growing

Major players in the sat nav market have dismissed suggestions that the sector is near maturity.

Speaking to PCR, managing director of distributor Widget said that the satellite navigation market was only near 25 per cent penetration, adding that the accepted definition of a mature market was 60 per cent.

"At this time, market penetration stands at less than 25 per cent. The big players in the sector would like to see that figure raised to 50 or 60 per cent, which is a realistic objective for future growth."

It was a point echoed by sales and marketing manager Damien Woodward: "Despite perception, this is still a very young market. We consider 60 per cent to be the natural level of penetration in a mature market."
