SanDisk has launched an $800 512GB memory card - the world’s highest capacity SD card currently on the market.
The company revealed the SanDisk Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I memory card, which has been designed for 4K video recording, at the International Broadcasting Convention.
SanDisk's original 512MB SD card was released in 2003, and in comparison the new Extreme Pro features write speeds of up to 90MB/s (megabytes per second), transfer speeds of up to 95MB/s, UHS Speed Class 3 and recording speeds to accommodate 4K video recording.
Dinesh Bahal, vice president of product marketing at SanDisk, said: “4K Ultra HD is an example of a technology that is pushing us to develop new storage solutions capable of handling massive file sizes.
“The 512GB SanDisk Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I card is a tremendous advancement that enables professionals to reliably store more content on a single card than ever before.”
It will be available for a pricy $799.99 and is available worldwide in capacities of 512GB and 256GB.
