The Samsung Gear Virtual Reality headset has hit the shelves just in time for Christmas.

VR is another type of technology that was previously not all that accessible by your everyday consumer – but now thanks to lower production costs and higher demand, the price tag on such gadgets has shrunk.

Samsung’s $199 headset has been built in partnership with virtual reality moguls, Oculus, incorporating tracking sensors from the first Oculus Rift development kit.

It has been built to fit around the Galaxy Note 4 – so as much as the headset itself is pretty cheap, if you don’t already have a Note 4, then you can add about £600 on top of that.

This version of the device will only be available from the Samsung and AT&T website for now… Basically anyone that purchases the “Innovator Edition” is a guinea pig in the beta stage. So bare that in mind before throwing your money at Samsung.

The device will be shipping out to additional countries in January, so we can expect it in the UK soon.
