Samsung ramps up flash memory

In the latest of a long list of flash memory technology advancements announced this year, Samsung has unveiled its brand new 4GB multi-chip package (MCP) designed for mobile phones.

The new chip package is branded ‘moviMCP’, while the NAND flash memory included within it is termed ‘moviNAND’, reported Daily Tech.

The eMMC interface allows easy integration into mobile phone platforms while Samsung are insisting that mobile phone vendors can save money by including the packagae instead of external SD, miniSD or microSD slots.

"We’ve now perfected a memory chip that allows handset manufacturers to significantly reduce development time while deploying an extremely robust design that will result in higher performance for smaller phones, with higher storage capacities," said Jim Elliott from Samsung.

Samsung expects to ship 392 million units by the end of the year.
