New smartphone to hit UK shelves April 26th

Samsung Galaxy S4 unveiled with eye recognition technology

Samsung’s next-gen smartphone gives you the ability to control the screen with your eyes and scroll up and down with the wave of a hand.

After weeks of speculation as to what exactly the new Galaxy device would have to offer, Samsung finally unveiled its latest offering in New York last night.

With a five-inch screen, the Galaxy S4 comes with an even larger display than that of its predecessor, the Galaxy S3. It is also slimmer, measuring 7.9mm and weighing in at 130g.

Among the most notable of the Samsung Galaxy S4’s features are its eye recognition and gesturing functions.

‘Smart Pause’ automatically pauses video footage when the user looks away from the screen, then starts it up again as soon as they look back. There’s also ‘Smart Scroll’, which allows one to scroll the browser or emails up and down simply by registering eye movements.

Meanwhile, ‘Air View’ allows users to preview the content of an email, S Planner, image gallery or video by just hovering their fingers over the screen, while ‘Air Gesture’ enables you to change a music track, scroll up and down a web page, or accept a call with the wave of a hand.

Elsewhere, the Galaxy S4 comes equipped with a 13-megapixel rear camera and a new a ‘Dual Camera’ function that allows both rear and front cameras to take simultaneous photos and videos. When capturing moments, one can choose from a variety of frame effects that blend the two pictures naturally to create a collage of small and large images.

Simon Stanford, vice president of IM division, Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland, commented: “At Samsung, we are restless about innovation, and are constantly striving to create unique experiences for our customers that will transform their lives. The Galaxy S4 does just that. We have listened to what consumers around the world want and taken the intuitive technology from the Galaxy S III a step further. Combining this with superior hardware has led us to develop the Galaxy S4, the ultimate smartphone inspired by our customers.”

The Samsung Galaxy S4 will be available from April 26th in the UK from the Samsung Experience Store at Westfield Stratford City and all other major operators. European availability is through Deutsche Telecom, EE, H3G, Orange, Telenor, Telia Sonera, Telefonica, and Vodafone.
