Samsung Galaxy S II to arrive on the 1st of May

The second generation Samsung Galaxy S smartphone, the Galaxy S II, will go on sale on the 1st of May in the UK.

Samsung’s original Galaxy S was one of the most popular high-end Android smartphones while the updated version is said to be the first handset to offer Samsung’s new Super AMOLED Plus display technology which the firm said is the "largest, brightest and most colourful screen" the firm has yet produced.

The Android 2.3-packing Galaxy S II, model GT-I9100, boasts a slew of upgrading hardware including a new dual core 1.2GHz CPU. Yet it manages to weigh just 116gr and measure just 8.5mm thick, helped no doubt by generous use of Samsung’s trademark plastic.

"From the moment it was revealed at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona there has been a huge buzz about the Galaxy S II, so we’re pleased to announce that it will be available for UK customers to buy from 1st May," said Samsung UK and Ireland boss Simon Stanford.

"Our slimmest, lightest, fastest smartphone is our first device to offer of Super AMOLED Plus screen technology, alongside the most advanced technical specifications including the latest Android OS and a dual core processor."

The Galaxy S II features an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p HD video recording capability and a number of new software feature such as Kies Air which enables sharing of content to PCs via Wi-Fi and Live Panel which is a sort of customisable social networking front end.

"We’re confident it’s a great package for anyone wanting a superior smartphone experience," said Stanford.
