The third largest supermarket in the UK, Sainsbury's, has signalled its intentions to further expand its non-food operations in line with Asda and Tesco.

The supermarket, which outlined its strategy in its interim results for the 28 weeks to October 6th, said that half of its new space by 2010 would be dedicated to the sale of non-food products, including PCs and other consumer electronics.

It also said that it expects that the increase in dedicated non-food space will account for one-third of the additional £3.5 billion in sales that its expansion plans will provide.
