The 'Twitch Plays Pokemon’ live stream saw over 36 million views over 16 days, with more than a billion minutes watched in total.

Following the completion of the crowd-controlled video game after 16 days, seven hours, 45 minutes and 30 seconds, Twitch released a collection of statistics about the massively popular stream.

Among the 36 million total viewers, 1,165,140 issued more than 122 million commands, with nine million remaining onlookers.

At its peak, the stream attracted 121,000 viewers at once.

“Twitch Plays Pokémon has been the biggest cultural phenomenon to strike Twitch all thanks to The Creator and You, our passionate and absolutely preposterous community,” said PR director Chase in the blog post.

“The Event has far transcended the gameplay itself, generating life-important discussions about religion, politics, mythology, and the importance of collaboration across cultural boundaries,” he continued, referring to the various memes and in-jokes to emerge from the stream, including ‘Bird Jesus’, ‘Air Jordan’ and ‘O Master Helix’ – which has even been submitted as a petition for a national holiday to the White House.

Following a short break after the completion of Pokemon Red/Blue, the Twitch Plays Pokemon stream has resumed, with players now progressing through Pokemon Crystal.
