Dixons Retail tipped as possible buyer

Phones 4U up for sale?

Speculation is rising that mobile phone business Phones 4U is to be sold, with PC World and Currys parent Dixons Retail tipped a likely buyer.

The firm’s private equity owner Providence Equity has received a number of takeover offers, according to The Sunday Times. It is estimated to be worth between £700 and £800 million.

The rumours that Dixons will be putting in a bid will surely be fuelled by the current close relationship between the two firms. A number of stores in the PC World and Currys portfolio have what amount to Phones 4U concessions, in what can be viewed as an increasingly important alliance in the face of Best Buys partnership with the Carphone Warehouse.
