IFA 2010: New device is a 'world first', vendor claims

Philips unveils new Platinum Series 3D TV

Philips has launched its Cinema 21:9 Platinum Series TV, which it claims is the world’s first cinema-proportion 3D TV.

The TV boasts a 58-inch screen in the 21:9 aspect ratio, the same as most cinema screens.

It has been upgraded from previous models to include a direct lit LED and a refresh rate of 0.5ms, which Philips claims makes it the fastest LED TV on the market.

The Platinum Series has a high-powered 3D transmitter integrated into the frame of the TV, communicating with an unlimited number of active 3D glasses.

According to Philips, the Perfect Pixel HD Engine improves sharpness, natural detail, vivid colors, contrast and smooth motion in both 2D and 3D.

Two dome tweeters and large volume woofers in the back of the TV enhance the sound quality, while multi-view allows the user to watch content on sites such as YouTube, while still keeping their programme on the other part of the screen.
