PCR Awards 2018: five reasons to attend

If you hadn’t heard, the PCR Awards are back for 2018 and we are less than one month away from finding out who is going to walk out a winner.

But if you were on the fence about attending, here are five reasons you need to be there.

1) Catching up with industry mates

It’s very easy to fall out of contact with old colleagues when you move around the industry, which is exactly why everyone who comes to the PCR Awards has such a great time. With all corners of the Channel covered, don’t be surprised to bump into someone you worked with 25 years ago.

2) The host is a comedic genius

The PCR Awards have had some pretty hilarious hosts in the past, but I think we may have topped ourselves this year. Phil Wang is a fast-rising standup star whose line in warm, clever observational comedy has brought him a wealth of TV credits and international live performances in a short time, including Live at the Apollo, Have I Got News For You, Would I Lie to You?, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, The John Bishop Show and Drunk History.

Proclaiming he started out in comedy in an attempt to demonstrate how clever he is, Phil delivers an intelligent but uncynical set, laced with wordplay and skilful riffs. He touches on his Malaysian heritage, broodiness, being a child that acted like an adult, and why companies that make embarrassing products can charge what they want.

You do not want to miss him.

3) Generate new business

As I’m sure you’re aware, the UK is a pretty big place. If you’re a business based in the South and want to strike up a deal with a Northern firm, sorting out calendars and meetings can be quite difficult.

The good news is that everyone who is anyone in tech from Dundee to Dorset is going to be at the PCR Awards, making it a great way to network and discuss potential propositions.

4) It’s the biggest industry party of the year

If you’ve never been to a PCR Awards night before (firstly, where have you been), I’m sure you’ve heard from peers and colleagues about the festivities. The Channel are a lively bunch at the best of times, but the PCR Awards is basically its New Year’s Eve. And this year, thanks to After Party Partner ASUS and ‘Magic Mirror’ Photobooth Partner Smithie UK, the night is set to be the biggest PCR Awards yet.

5) You could be a winner!

It might seem obvious for an Awards show, but a big reason to turn up is that you might be winning! If you were lucky enough to be listed on the shortlist, then there is every chance that you could be receiving a prestigious PCR Award and all the plaudits that go along with it. And you know what they say, an award is a great chaser for your wine.
