Release of next-gen consoles also expected to boost PC gaming sales

‘PC gamers will be tempted by range of products this Christmas’

Christmas sales of PC hardware will be boosted this year by consumers looking to upgrade their gaming rig, Overclockers UK has said.

The online retailer predicted that the number of PC products launched this year, “including the new Intel Haswell and Ivybridge-E platforms, as well as new graphics cards from both AMD and Nvidia”, will “tempt” customers into upgrading during Q4.

Mark Purdy, marketing manager for Overclockers UK, added that the launch of the next-gen PS4 and Xbox One games consoles would also boost sales of the hardware.

“The imminent release of the new generation of consoles has created a lot of publicity for PC gaming,” he told PCR.

“With consoles running on PC architecture, we expect to see demand for PC upgrades as console games are released with higher quality versions for PC gamers.”

Purdy said that Overclockers had “redefined” their custom-built PC range and extended their standard warranty to two years in order to address the growing interest in the market.

He stated that the retailer expected sales to “definitely grow” when compared with previous years due to the renewed interest in PC hardware, despite competition heating up online.

“Christmas is the biggest time of year for retail and competition is increasing as online shopping becomes more popular with consumers,” he said.

“[But] we are already seeing the benefits of all the hard work we have done to improve our business and we expect this to continue through the peak season.”
