Voip service continues to be available only within the US

Official Google Voice apps for iPhone

Google has launched the official Google Voice iPhone application enabling cheap international voip calls, free texting to US numbers and voicemail transcription.

Originally Apple had blocked Google Voice from being available for the iPhone but after an investigation from US anti competition regulators, the firm has since allowed several applications to appear in the iTunes App Store including Google Voice.

“Today we’re taking the Google Voice experience on the iPhone to a whole new level with the launch of the official Google Voice for iPhone app,” said Google engineer Christian Brunschen on the Google blog.

Brunschen said the new iPhone application also supports push notifications so voicemail and text message alerts will occur instantly. Google Voice for iPhone is available in the App Store immediately and is compatible with iPhones running iOS 3.1 or later and a Google Voice account.

Google Voice continues to be limited to the United States only.
