A report by Ofcom has alleged that UK broadband customers are being misled about their connection speeds.

According to the BBC, the study found that 97 per cent of customers do not get the speeds that are advertised, with the average speed being 46 per cent lower than claimed.

“The gap between the average headline speed and actual speed has increased in this period even though the actual speed has risen,” said Ofcom’s chief executive, Ed Richards.

The report also found that 65 per cent of UK households now have fixed line broadband, with 24 per cent of those homes being able to support 10Mbps or higher, compared to just eight per cent in April 2009.
