Nova Smith scoops top PCR Woman of the Year 2015 accolade

Nova Smith, founder of vendor/etailer IT Tablet UK, has won the top award at the PCR Women of the Year awards 2015.

She picked up the grand accolade at the awards and networking event at London’s Sway Bar today (Friday, October 16th).

Smith set up IT Tablet UK and is director and owner of Direct E-Trading Ltd. Her role includes branding her own tablet PCs and peripherals, overseeing production of tablets in China, importing goods into the UK, managing staff at her Leeds office and sourcing new technology and products.

With her ‘never give up’ attitude, she has taken the idea of bringing an affordable range of tablets to market, and made it a reality.

The tablets are listed in the top 100 best sellers on Amazon, and the it tablet features in the top 10. The latest IPS tablet product even became the No.1 best-selling tablet on Amazon, eclipsing both the Kindle and the iPad over the August bank holiday earlier this year.

She has also signed a corporate sponsorship deal with Bliss, the UK charity supporting premature and special care babies, to give them a percentage of profits from the sale of her products. She also has six apprentices working for her from the Government’s apprenticeship scheme.

Her success story has also been covered nationally by publications such as The Telegraph.

Smith told the audience of her heartwarming story about how she balanced her business in the tech industry, while coping with the fact that her son was in a critical condition during his early years. Fortunately she managed to overcome the situation, create a successful business and her son recovered.

Maggie Zaboura, founder and CEO of Zaboura Communications, handed the award to Smith during the awards ceremony.

Smith said: "Honestly I did not expect this, and I have got tears in my eyes. Today is emotional. Big up the women!"

The PCR Women of the Year Awards 2015 shines the spotlight on some of the most inspirational and influential female execs in the PC tech industry.

Industry execs gathered to celebrate female role models and enjoy an afternoon of networking.

The event was supported by headline partner Zaboura Communications and event partners CompTIADell and The Hut Group

The awards ceremony followed the success of the inaugural PCR Woman of the Year awards last year, won by Dell’s Sarah Shields
