Scotland's NHS service has rejected open source to sign a deal to deploy Windows 7 on 100,000 PCs.

According to the Channel Register, the deal with Microsoft reseller Trustmarque is said to be worth around £5 million and is forecast to save NHS Scotland around a million pounds over the course of its lifetime.

However, proponents of open source solutions expressed disappointment at the decision.

“I suspect this was a strategy to flirt with open source people and get a discount from Microsoft,” the head of Sirius Open Source, Mark Taylor, told the Register.
