New World of Warcraft: Legion expansion revealed

PC games developer Blizzard has announced a new expansion for popular PC game World of Warcraft, titled Legion.

The company lifted the lid on the next instalment in its popular online game (which has been around for more than ten years) at Gamescom today in Cologne.

Legion adds a new Demon Hunter character class to the game, as well as a fresh PVP honour system, a new Broken Isles continent, artifact weapons and new dungeons and raids.

Villain Illidan has returned to this expansion, too. Blizzard says it’s the biggest Legion invasion in any World of Warcraft expansion.

The reveal was a little underwhelming – fans expecting a big overhaul of World of Warcraft may be left a little disappointed. But maybe it’s just because our expectations of these games are so high.

The reveal comes after Blizzard announced its Q2 2015 financial results earlier this week, which showed that World of Warcraft’s paying player base is down to 5.6 million.

This is a drop of 1.5 million from Q1 2015. At its peak the game had more than 12 million subscribers.
