New Gear: The fastest ever SSD, AMD’s XConnect tech, Kaspersky security for wearables

Here’s our roundup of the latest hardware, components, peripherals and products from the tech and IT channel announced this week.

SEAGATE FASTEST EVER SSD
Seagate Technology has unveiled a production-ready unit of the fastest single solid-state drive demonstrated to date, with throughput performance of 10 gigabytes per second. The 10GB/s unit, which is expected to be released this summer, is more than 4GB/s faster than the previous fastest-industry SSD on the market. It also meets the OCP storage specifications being driven by Facebook, which will help reduce the power and cost burdens traditionally associated with operating at this level of performance.

AMD XCONNECT TECHNOLOGY AND CRIMSON EDITION 16.3
AMD has announced AMD XConnect technology, designed to make it easy to pair a powerful external Radeon graphics card with a compatible notebook or 2-in-1 using Thunderbolt 3. The firm has also announced the latest version of the Radeon Software Crimson Edition with 16.3, which offers updated Crossfire profiles for Hitman and The Park, as well as support for Hitman. Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.3 also incorporates Vulkan support, a powerful “low-overhead” API, intended to enable a wider audience of game developers to work with Vulkan on Radeon graphics.

KASPERSKY WEARABLE INTERNET SECURITY
Kaspersky has a new version of its Internet Security for Android that includes an option for managing protection via Android Wear devices. This means, a user’s smartwatch can now display notifications from Kaspersky Internet Security for Android, installed on a paired smartphone or tablet.

SYNOLOGY DISKSTATION DS216J
Synology has announced the official release of a new addition to the Synology j Series, the DS216j. It is one of the new models adopting the Marvell Armada 38x CPU solution, equipped with Armada 385 Dual Core 1.0GHz CPU and 512 MB DDR3 memory. The Synology DiskStation DS216j is available worldwide with an RRP of £126.

NETGEAR READYCLOUD
NETGEAR ReadyCLOUD is a free service that allows users to access files on their ReadyNAS or on storage connected to a Nighthawk anytime, anywhere, or from any web-enabled device.

PANASONIC FZ-M1 MK2 MOBILE TABLET
Panasonic is launching the latest version of its popular Toughpad FZ-M1 tablet alongside a 3D Intel RealSense camera application, both designed for the retail and logistics industry. Panasonic has also unveiled Ingenico’s iCMP, one of the smallest and lightest Chip & Pin mobile payment devices on the market, working with a range of its Toughpad tablets.

AOC 16:9 WIDESCREEN MONITORS
With their new 75 Series, AOC has unveiled a selection of energy-efficient 16:9 widescreen monitors for professionals. The displays will be available in various sizes ranging from 18.5-inch to 27-inch at its largest, making the monitors suitable for different working environments. Users can select between a variety of high quality panels and will also benefit from the integrated Flicker-Free technology, ensuring comfortable viewing even during long periods of working. The range will be available from March 2016.

CORSAIR SABRE GAMING MOUSE AND SFX FORM FACTOR PSU
Corsair has announced the immediate availability of the upgraded Sabre RGB gaming mouse. It is equipped with a 10,000 DPI optical sensor, four-zone dynamic multicolour backlighting and eight programmable buttons. The firm also announced the release of its first ever SFX form factor PSUs, the new Corsair SF600 and SF450. the fully modular PSUs are 80 Plus Gold Certified and built with 100 per cent Japanese capacitors.

TOSHIBA CANVIO HARD DISK DRIVES
Toshiba has two new HDDs – the Canvio for Desktop and Canvio Premium. Following from its predecessor, the Canvio for Desktop combines storage of up to 6 TB1 with the future-proof USB 3.0 port. The Canvio Premium is designed for use with high-end notebooks and includes a USB Type-C adapter to connect with top-of-the-range devices. It is able to store large digital libraries with up to 3TB storage capacity.
