New gear: Acer liquid-cooled Switch Alpha 12, Intel Apollo Lake, Crucial DDR4 server memory

Acer unveils a raft of new notebooks, desktops and monitors

Here’s our roundup of the latest hardware, components, peripherals and products from the tech and IT channel announced this week.

ACER SWITCH ALPHA 12, NOTEBOOKS, DESKTOPS, MONITORS AND PROJECTORS
The Switch Alpha 12 takes Acer’s popular 2-in-1 series to a new level of innovation with the company’s proprietary liquid cooling technology, that allows for silent and reliable operation in an ultra-slim design as it requires no fan inside.

The ultra-slim S series now offers the best fusion of performance and build at a highly desirable price with the Aspire S 13; while Acer also unveiled its thinnest 15-inch 360-degree convertible with the Aspire R 15.

As well as this, Acer has unveiled a host of other new products, including the Aspire E and F Series consumer notebooks, the Chromebook 14 for Work, the Veriton N desktop, F7 Series projectors, and new gaming notebooks, desktops and monitors in its Predator range.

INTEL APOLLO LAKE AND BUDGET SSDS
Intel’s new Apollo Lake chipsets are aimed at powering thinner and more powerful entry-level devices. With Apollo Lake, 4K video and USB-C will become available on more affordable systems, without a significant impact on battery life. The firm has also unveiled its 540s budget SSDs. Available in both the M.2 and 2.5-inch form factors, the drives starts at $80 for a 120GB capacity, and will cost $450 for an entire terabyte.

CRUCIAL 32GB AND 64GB DDR4 SERVER MEMORY
Crucial has announced the availability of two new offerings in its server memory product portfolio: 32GB DDR4 VLP RDIMMs and 64GB DDR4 LRDIMMs. With speeds of 2400 MT/s and engineered to enable higher densities by implementing a dual stack of 8Gb DDR4 DRAM die to engineer a single 16Gb component, these new DDR4 server memory modules allow for increased memory density, performance and bandwidth.

SAMSUNG’S FIRST ULTRA HD BLU-RAY PLAYER
Samsung Electronics UK has announced that its Ultra HD Blu-ray Player is now available to buy online and in UK stores. The first of its kind for the brand, the UBD-K8500 is HDR compatible and offers four times the resolution of a conventional Blu-ray player so users can enjoy movies in stunning resolution, colour and brightness the way the director intended them to be seen.

HANNSPAD TITAN 2 TABLET
HANNspree has unveiled its new 13-inch Tablet PC. The flagship model of the HANNSpad Tablet PC series, the new Titan 2, supersedes the popular Titan to offer more muscle for the serious Tablet PC user. It includes; a 13.3-inch Full HD screen, IPS display technology, the combined force of Octa Core CPU performance and 2GB Ram, Android 5.1, GPS, a high spec dual camera set up plus 16GB of internal storage.

CORSAIR K70 RGB RAPIDFIRE MECHANICAL KEYBOARD
Corsair has announced the newest entries to its celebrated line-up of mechanical keyboards, the K70 RGB RAPIDFIRE, K65 RGB RAPIDFIRE and K70 RAPIDFIRE. The first keyboards in the world to feature the all-new Cherry MX Speed switch, the Corsair RAPIDFIRE family’s linear mechanical key switches actuate at a distance of just 1.2mm. 40% Faster than a standard Cherry MX key switch, the Corsair RAPIDFIRE range gives gamers the edge when every millisecond counts and the outcome of a match rests on a single key press.

NEW AMAZON FIRE COLOURS
Amazon Fire will be available in three new colors: magenta, blue, and tangerine, and with either 8GB of internal storage for $49.99 or with 16GB for $69.99. The new Fire colors and storage options are available now.
