Netgear N900 claims 900Mbps WiFi capability

Network specialist Netgear has launched a new WiFi router called the Netgear N900 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router that the firm claims can deliver up to 900 megabits per second of combined WiFi speed.

The N900 is designed to deliver speed and greater WiFi range for even the most demanding of tasks such as wireless 3D and HD video streaming, multiplayer gaming and backing up big files, the company said.

The N900 can support 450Mbps in both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands via an array of six internal antennas boosted by ultra high power radio amplifiers.

The device also sports two USB ports to share a printer and USB hard drive or flash drive across the home network. The firm said sharing was up to 30 per cent faster due a more powerful processor onboard.

"The Netgear N900 stands alone in delivering ultimate wireless speed, range and premium features, while the router’s easy-to-use browser-based installation and NETGEAR Genie will help even the most non-technical users explore and enjoy all the possibilities of a modern home network," said Netgear wireless product manager Sandeep Harpalani.

The Netgear N900 is available now in the US priced at $179.99 and will arrive worldwide later in the year.
